Bicentennial 3 pc Proof Set

To celebrate America's bicentennial, the Mint issued special commemorative coins. Distinctive quarters, half dollars and dollars were struck, unique to 1975 and 1976, with each denomination sporting a bicentennial themed reverse design, and the date on each shown as 1776-1976. No regular quarters, half dollars or dollars were struck during this two year period. Clad examples of these special designs were included in the regular Proof sets sold in 1975 and 1976, and a three-piece silver alloy set was offered separately. Approximately 4 million of the so-called "Silver Clad" sets were sold. Reference books include A GUIDE BOOK OF UNITED STATES COINS by R.S.Yeoman.
